How does one respond in Australia, when your released from prison and friends and strangers call you a hero and a legend? I has a skin cancer on my nose when I was just 24, now 67 I stood up to the Governments all age bicycle helmet law because of a number of factors, some mentioned in the press after I was given 18 months prison. on release from prison complete strangers called me a legend and/or hero. I was reading legislation on safe outdoor hats and found that the bicycle helmets fell short of the stated safety description. The courts dismissed my concerns and claimed that the safety legislation was for workers who spend long hours outdoors. I should have pointed out then that they are all outdoors in the same danger without the safe head-wear. So you can not force workers to use them outdoors due to UVC but everyone else is forced to take the extra skin cancer risk? Eventually after 4 Appeals and many minor court appearances I won. The outstanding fines are dismissed and my drivers clean license returned. The deafening silence about this win from the mainstream media is not surprising as I had to not only resist the police but the courts were not willing to listen to reason, that is until after my melanoma diagnosis. This diagnosis was my worst fear, fortunately it had not spread. But it means the fear of using the poorly designed bicycle helmet outdoors can not be mandated. Causing fear is a more serious offense. That's it in a concise format. the mandatory enforcement of bicycle helmets is no more. Archives April 2023
